Perthshire Artisans offers local and joyful gifting this Small Business Saturday

Perthshire Artisans is reminding consumers not to forget independent online retailers as they ‘shop local’ on Small Business Saturday UK, which this year falls on Saturday 2 December.

The Small Business Saturday campaign encourages individuals to shop with and support small businesses in their communities, which in turn supports the local economy. This message is one that especially resonates with Perthshire Artisans, which is run on a non-profit basis by enterprise support organisation GrowBiz as a way to support local creative businesses.

With consumers increasingly prioritising seasonal gifts that are ethical, sustainable and locally sourced, the online platform offers an easy way to access a wide range of over 500 carefully created gifts, all made in Perth & Kinross, and from 34 independent creative businesses, many of whom have limited or no high street presence.

Perthshire Artisans is a curated platform, ensuring originality and high quality of products to choose from including ceramics, glass, candles, cards, homewares, prints, original artworks, jewellery, mosaic, clothing, accessories, leather and wood items.

This year the collection includes ‘Deer in the Forest’  tea-light curves by Jane Drysdale, based in Crieff; Greyhound digital print by Sabrin Miller, based in Blairgowrie; Leather Apron by Daniel van Vuuren, based near Perth; woven willow ‘Zarzo’ Fruit Bowl by Rachel Kirk, based in Abernethy; and Storm Trooper Tea Towel by Jon Bishop, based in Comrie.

Caron Ironside, Project Manager at Perthshire Artisans said: “There's something special about discovering a unique gift crafted by a local artist. Not only does it make giving and receiving gifts more engaging and memorable, there's also an instant story to share. The piece's origin, how it was created, and where it was made all contribute to a more meaningful gifting experience.

“It’s also good to know that profits are reinvested, so every purchase is directly supporting the growth and development of the local artisan community and in turn the rural economy.”
