Coronavirus Update: 27 July

We hope that everyone who reopened this month had a successful start. As self-employed individuals ourselves, the GrowBiz team know that a key part of running a successful business or enterprise is making the most of available resources and opportunities that come along, so we’ve got several lined up for you to have a look at in this week’s blog:

Open Fund: Sustaining Creative Development Update: Creative Scotland have updated the Open Fund application forms, guidance documents and FAQs. Take a look here.

Social Entrepreneurs Fund: This Scottish Government-funded programme supports individuals in Scotland to test, start, and grow social enterprise ideas. It runs five different funds, three of which have now re-opened. If you are thinking about or already in the process of starting a social enterprise in Scotland then find out if one of them is right for you here.

Forward Coupar Angus Community Engagement Coordinator: Forward Coupar Angus are currently recruiting for a Community Engagement Coordinator. The closing date for application is 31 July 2020. Details of the post can be viewed Goodmoves here.

FSB Scotland Business Support: Printable signs and social media cards to let your customers know that you are open for business and COVID compliant can be downloaded for free here.

You can find a range of webinars, including several on coronavirus support, here. If you are a member, you can also share what you would like to see for future events in this survey.

Arts and Mental Health Funding: A reminder that the Baring Foundation has opened the first funding call in its new Arts programme theme of Arts and Mental Health. This funding is for established organisations in the UK that focus solely on offering creative opportunities to people of any age living with mental health problems using the skills of professionally trained artists. Find out more here.

The foundation is also planning a report on how the creative ageing sector responded to COVID-19, looking at its impact on participants, artists and organisations. If you’re such an organisation, you can fill in this survey about your experiences and may win one of the two £250 prizes which will be randomly selected from the entries.

Government Advice for Small and Micro-Businesses: The Scottish Government has published advice for small and micro businesses where there is no sector-specific guidance published to reopen safely. Read it here.

Rural Social Enterprise Network Survey: The provision of local access and progression routes are especially vital in view of the challenges of increasing unemployment, particularly for young people. To get a better understanding of what social enterprises could offer, Rural SEN are carrying out a short survey to determine previous activity and future support. Take the survey here.

BRDT Finance Officer Opportunity: Blairgowrie & Rattray Development Trust are recruiting for a part-time Finance Officer. Find out more here, or email eileen.ferguson@brdt.org.uk

Improving Internet Connectivity Speeds throughout Perth & Kinross: The local authorities in Tayside are working to support better digital connectivity across the region. They have created a survey to provide a baseline to monitor the improvement in digital connectivity, the increase in broadband connectivity speeds and identify areas for improvement. You can take the survey here.

REDS (Rural Enterprise Directory Scotland) Update: The first stage of our fundraising campaign to support micro-enterprises and the self-employed in rural Scotland has just one week to go and we would love to have 100 pledgers by Monday 2 August. If you haven’t yet contributed please take a moment to look at our crowdfunding page and consider making a donation, however small: www.crowdfunder.co.uk/reds
