“No question was a silly question with SEED and I always felt supported throughout my business journey.”

— Sophie Downes

What can you expect?

1 to 1 support

You’ll have regular catch-ups with SEED Coordinator, Ang Laurie, who will check how you’re getting on, help you come up with achievable goals to work towards, and be a sounding board for your ideas. She can also identify what further support you may benefit from. Usually, these conversations are done over Zoom or by phone.

Online learning

GrowBiz runs a variety of interactive learning sessions designed to help self-employed people, social enterprises and small business owners to develop their skills and improve their working lives. Topics include marketing, wellbeing, social media, finances, net zero planning and more. See our current list of events here.

Mentoring

An important part of SEED is helping participants grow their confidence, and access to mentoring plays a vital role in that. Conversations with mentors can reassure you you’re on the right track, be an opportunity to share any challenges you’re facing, guide you towards solutions, and support you to take the next steps in your business life.

Networking

Meeting the right people, collaborating and learning from others’ experiences can all progress you on your entrepreneurial journey. The SEED and GrowBiz team can make this an easier process by connecting you and offering opportunities to network.

Wellbeing

It isn’t easy running your own business, and you don’t get paid leave or company retreats! So it’s really important to look after your own wellbeing as a self-employed person. Your most important asset is you. GrowBiz and SEED provide accredited Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP®) training workshops to give you the knowledge and skills needed to support your own mental health and that of those around you. If you’re interested in attending a WRAP workshop, let us know here.

Small grant funding

Sometimes the costs associated with running a business can hold you back, but SEED is here to help. Small grants are available to programme participants for things like buying equipment, launching a product, or creating promotional materials. Recommended amounts are £250, £500 or £1000—although this can be tailored to your needs—and you can apply more than once.

SEED Clients Say:

Alisha Murray

“I’ve liked having this support. It feels easy and because it's quite informal, we can just chat things over. The fact that you're just an email away is great. If I’ve got any questions, I can ping a quick email, and you're really good at getting back. The grant has been really beneficial to me too – every bit of my kit is used every week. The branded wear is really smart and clients have commented about this.”

Sophie Downes

“No question was a silly question with SEED and I always felt supported throughout my business journey. After a couple of interviews and zoom calls, I was awarded a grant from GrowBiz which allowed me to develop my very own stationery range. I conducted market research, developed new patterns, sourced suppliers, and after a lot of emails and research later, I had designed and produced a brand new stationery collection. This was unbelievably rewarding and made possible by SEED’s financial support.”
